TCS and Ericsson Top ABI Research’s Carrier Location Platform Competitive Assessment
In its latest Competitive Assessment, Carrier Location Platform Vendors, ABI Research compares the leading companies in this space across 13 parameters to determine the best placed to succeed. TCS and Ericsson take the number one and two rankings respectively, with proven technology, a large existing contract roster, and strong opportunities around E911 and 4G/LTE.
Senior Analyst Patrick Connolly commented, “The Carrier Location Platform market has changed significantly over the past 2 years, yet these two companies remain best placed for long term success. However, the convergence of the overall BSS/OSS and CEM markets means that we are now seeing a host of network optimization and quality assurance companies moving into this space. Furthermore, the arrival of low cost solutions coupled with carriers engaging in analytics and advertising initiatives means that there is a gap in the market, being filled by start-ups.”
Companies like JDSU, Tektronix Communications, and Intrado also have strong carrier relationships, and more importantly, have a clear RoI for their technology based on internal benefits. In different ways, leading start-ups Intersec and Mobile Arts have illustrated how a start-up can achieve success in a short amount of time with a targeted optimized solution that meets carrier needs best. In particular, Intersec is the technology of choice for a number of carrier analytics and advertising efforts which will drive significant growth should they prove to be a commercial success.
Some traditional players like Polaris Wireless, NSN, and TruePosition have been slower to move into these new areas and will need to do so as soon as possible. Polaris Wireless has undergone somewhat of a transition over the past 3 years, and appears to be winning business internationally in lawful intercept as well as LBS and potentially advertising.TruePosition is undergoing some changes and are a company to keep an eye on over the next 12 months, following the acquisition and reboot of Skyhook Wireless.
