Ericsson Awards & Publications
Ericsson is a Leader in the Passive Base Station Antenna Market. Ericsson Antenna System, following the acquisition of Kathrein Mobile Communication in 2019, continued to focus on developing antennas with demonstratable value for the mobile operator. Ericsson Antenna System is financially allocated in Ericsson’s Networks segment. In 2022, Ericsson reported annual net sales of US$26.1 billion (SEK271.5 billion) with the Networks division representing 71.3% of the Group’s total net sales or US$18.6 billion (SEK193.5 billion).
ABI Research recognized Ericsson as a Top Innovator in the Passive Base Station Antenna Market. The company has continued to develop a high-capability antenna portfolio and demonstrated a strong focus on R&D with its advanced Test Technology Center and participation in multiple future-looking projects and research groups.
Ericsson was named a Top Implementer in the Passive Base Station Antenna Market by ABI Research. Ericsson received strong scores for its financial and organizational health and geographic penetration.
As a Leader in the Passive Base Station Antenna Market, Ericsson has a good range of products catering to the multi-band demands by CSPs. This includes single-band antennas to nona-band for FDD only and to 14 bands for FDD+TDD hybrid antennas.
An implementation leader in massive MIMO, Ericsson has a comprehensive list of products, mMIMO for sub-6 GHz, TDD with different Tx power, bandwidth, and FDD solutions. There are also hybrid and interleaved solutions, as well as mmWave radios.
The Ericsson mMIMO architecture is designed to put the highest possible beamforming and MIMO processing in the radio’s Advanced Antenna System (AAS) itself, close to the antennas and radio channel to have real-time and fine granular information about the radio channel. The fronthaul bitrate from the Radio Access Network (RAN) to the baseband (RAN Compute) is reduced with this architecture.
Ericsson, the overall leader in massive MIMO platforms, offers a wide range of product portfolios and solutions to ease installation and accelerate 5G rollouts. Its mMIMO portfolio spans from 16T16R to 64T64R, including passive and active hybrid and interleaved solutions.
Ericsson was named a Leader in ABI Research's competitive ranking of 5G End-to-End Core Network Automation and Orchestration vendors. Ericsson’s 5GC Automation and Orchestration solution suite enables CSPs to manage hybrid cloud infrastructure, including PNFs, VNFs, and CNFs, and supports full LCM (i.e., onboarding, instantiation, termination, upgrade, admin scaling, and NFs support) for 5GC applications across different HCPs and onpremises infrastructure, and is currently based on standard ETSI MANO specifications for software LCM and leverages TMF and 3GPP specifications for service and slice management.
Ericsson was named a Top Implementer in the 5G End-to-End Core Network Automation and Orchestration competitive ranking, driven by the large number of commercial deployments of its solutions. Instead of simply relying on its traditional network core strengths, Ericsson has embraced the cloud-native infrastructure, supporting features such as micro-services, stateless processes, CI/CD, virtual containers, and openness for easy integration to third-party solutions.
